The second Dark Ages forthcoming album “Aegis” is a departure from the first eponymous album. Bandleader Tom Shad decided that it should be a vocal album . He recruited singers from many different styles and backgrounds to write melodies and lyrics to his and Nick Didkovsky’s compositions . They were performed and , to some degree, improvised with the new band which adds Jacob Sunshine on guitar, Colin Marston on six string bass and Alex Cohen on drums to original members Tom Shad and Nick Didkovsky.
The first single has Jerry Lang from Poison idea singing the A side and Cynthia Sley of the Bush Tetras singing the B-side.
The second single features Ben Spees and Oliver Campbell of Mercury Tree on lead vocals and backing screams on "Sticky" respectively.
The remaining five tracks are, for now, a mystery but seven more vocalists will be featured on those tracks
.
lyrics
Firepit
You crawl back to your sacred mother
Lay lips onto her spiral udder
Climb the beanstalk
Ape the moonwalk
But you can’t dance, motherfucker
You crawl back to your sacred widow
Lay dead mice on her velvet pillow
Don’t break bread with me it shatters
So hang your hat on that in tatters
Nothing I can say now matters to you
It’s in this firepit
Where your pyre fits
It’s in this vacuum hose
Where your eyeball goes
And your ragged breathing slows

The Dark ages project came out of an improvised gig and Tom Shad’s late night studio noodling. .What would a two bass , two guitar and drums instrumental Metal band sound like ?
Glorious, carefully constructed and meticulously but voraciously performed insanity. No matter how familiar one may be with the full and lengthy extent of the Doctor Nerve canon, the surprises never once stop unfolding. One marvels at the twisted cohesiveness of all this fury just as one marvels at the longevity of the tenure of some of the band members involved. Carl Howard
The Long Island metal band's third album etches arena-sized hooks into their jagged compositions, deftly balancing experimental and poppy inclinations. Bandcamp Album of the Day May 12, 2022
